Hello everyone!

I am awaiting an answer from Club Somebody Please Help Me about a gig date in October. I have suggested mid October.

I have mixed two of the Mountain Men songs from Backstage. I am quite satisfied considering that we only had like half a rehearsal and without Roland Hjalmarsson. I knew that we could trust him. He does a great job. The two first songs are one that I wrote called Nothing to the Sky and one Grateful Dead song from Wake of the Flood called Eyes of the World. I am very thankful to Anders and Ulf also for playing. It was important to me not to cancel since Mats is one of my best friends and his festival is a great initiative.

So here is the first part:

Greetings!

I found a recording of Anders, Peter and I jamming. It was recorded in January this year. The song is quite a nice piece and I call it Unmajor since it changes between A minor and F major. If you have a better name, don't hesitate to suggest it to me (info@reform-music.com). We have tried this theme with Reform and it worked nicely. We will probably play it on September 12 at Stockholm Fusion Club.

Enjoy!

The Backstage Festival

I guess it's time to give a short review of the Backstage Festival. This year's festival was the best one so far and not only thanks to the good weather. Everything was high-standard and very well organized. You need people like Mats Jarl to make the world go 'round.

The festival started out with

Carl-Eiwar Sect. It went very well. The Asian psyche was a success which made us very happy.

The Merdé was next and they were very good. I would call it a post-grunge band, but heavier. They had a new singer, Ola Sivefeldt, who made a great job. Their music was quite "dark" and should have fit better later when the sun had set.

Then there was food break.

Alison Clay was the next act to enter the stage. It is one of Mats' groups. This year with Björn Stigsson (Leviticus and XT) on lead guitar. He played great and his highlight was when the band played Like a Hurricane by Neil Young.

I was quite satisfied with Mountain Men's performance. We had rehearsed that same day for the first time at Uffe's place. Roland could unfortunately not participate in the rehearsal, so his first time with the group was on the actual gig. He made a great job! It went well, but I prefer to rehearse and to have a steady group. I will upload some videos later.

Helena & Southfarm is always nice to hear. Their guitar player, Carl Gösta, is something special. You can hear all his influences (Clapton, Green...) but with his own touch to it. He is like brought from the sixties without being a copycat.

Then there was a coffee break.

Volume Unit is a very, very tight group that delivers explosive rock. Their frontman, Rickard Andersson, is born to be on stage. He's got IT. Jukka Kemmpainen is a very experienced and inventive guitarist. Ronnie Hasselqvist is also born to be on stage. He seems to transform into a sort of animal overdosed on adrenalin. They also had two guest singers, Berith Stennabb and Maria Biederbeck. They also did a great job.

My Name Is Jonas was a very good band that only played Weezer tunes. I know the bassist Marcus Åblad from when I studied music in Skövde. A great bassist. Though I did not find the opportunity to talk to him.

Last band out was Mats' second band, Studded Soul. They delivered soul classics with great enthusiasm. Christer Hammarberg played an awesome guitar and the drummer, Stefan Carlsson, backed up the energy from the three lead singers.

The jam continued until very late that night!

THANK YOU MATS JARL FOR A GREAT EVENT!!!

Soon it's time to leave Stockholm for Lerdala and the Backstage Festival! I hope the weather will be ok and that everything will go well with Mountain Men and Carl-Eiwar Sect. Anyway, I'm looking forward to play!

I fill you in on everything when I'm back!

Until then: Take care, live well and stay out of trouble!

Hi there all you reformers!

The weather is perfect and there's not time to sit in front of the computer during the sunny hours. I have taken time to practice the bass a bit though. It is important to practice even though some tough dudes might say that practising is for cowards.

I am now planning for several things:

I want to make a decent live album with Reform and up until now the recordings have been of poor quality. I don't know when the recordings will take place, but I am waiting for several gig dates: Skottvångs Gruva, Engelen and Big Ben. Stockholm Fusion Club is already booked. Dates for rehearsal have to be set also. There is some new material to play.

Janne Kullhammar substituted for Åke at the Sugar Bar gig on mars 21 and he will be playing Hellstone at the Stockholm Fusion Club gig.

Plans are also made for a new album with only Miles Davis numbers performed by Reform, but since the tunes haver been rearranged by us all the paperwork has to be in order. If you have a suggestion for the title of this album you are welcome to present it to us here or at info@reform-music.com. Don't hesitate!

Our friends in Pitchblack-ltd have also signed up with RadioIndy and have received a nice review of their latest album Friction. Magnus Ramel plays keyboard with them!

Here are the last last three songs that Carl-Eiwar Sect will play at the Backstage Festival on Saturday:

Love For Sale: Eddie Pelegrina & the Blinkers (Philippines)
Hanashitakunai: Youngers (Japan)
Magic Colours: Teddy Robin & The Playboys (Hong Kong)

Woodstock and the Backstage Festival

Hi reformers!

Back from Uppsala and a Woodstock marathon at Anders. It was great! I must say that I think that Joe Cocker is the highlight. Such energy is rarely seen and is something that defines good music! I had bought the newly released Woodstock, Three Days of Peace & Music. I am impressed by the picture quality, but not as much with the sound. It is too defined and thin. For example in With a Little Help from my Friends there are two voices "asking" in one of the verses. In the original movie you hear both of them, but in this version you only hear one of them. And when only listening to one of the voices it sounds a bit false. A pity! But anyway great!

This clip is from the original movie:

And this is another televised version from 1968. Extremely good!!!

Everything seems to be set for the Backstage Festival. Anders and I will leave on Friday night and early on Saturday morning go to Uffe's house and rehearse. Everything will go well I hope.

Reform has three new distributors. One of them is for our Japanese fans!

Today I have been notified by Magnus Ramel that he cannot change his work shift. A pity since he is such a great musician. He will be replaced by Roland Hjalmarsson from Helena & South Farm, another band that will play the same night. I have jammed with Roland and he is a great musician too. He plays bass and keyboard magnificently!

It will be great!!!
